Hi Greg
How would you incorporate kettlebells in to a 3 day barbell 5x5 programme aimed at fat loss and increasing strength? Also is it recommended?

I’ve worked through a number of your programs over a number of years (on and off) and have steadily increased the weight of the KB. I am a 53 year old male and focussed on the health benefits not body aesthetics that KB training brings but I’m conscious that throwing around heavier and heavier KB’s when getting older could be a recipe for an injury. I thought barbell work could be safer and easier way to achieve progressive overload using the 5x5 programme.

The conundrum in facing is that I'm acutely aware that i need rest days at my age in between training so don’t want to over do it.

In summary I want a safe way to achieve progressive overload to ensure I maintain and improve my strength and lose fat whilst also ensuring I have a programme that maintains mobility that comes with KB’s and ultimately not overdoing it.

Should KB’s be slotted in at the end of a 5x5 training session or done on rest days of the 5x5 or even 5x5 one week, KB’s on the following week etc

Hey Greg!
I love your app and the exercises with the tutorial (if you are new and need help with proper form) super awesome!
I’ve had a busy schedule and have taken about 2 weeks off from my kb workouts.. should I go back to beginner or is it ok to pick back up with intermediate level?
Thanks!

Sure Daniel, you could do a <a href="https://kettlebellsworkouts.com/kettlebell-push-pull-workouts/">push workout on one day and pulling</a> on another, or Upper one day and <a href="https://kettlebellsworkouts.com/lower-body-beginner-kettlebell-workouts/">Lower workout</a> the other.

Hi Greg, I'm having trouble getting in 3 workouts a week due to my work schedule. I work 12 hour shifts and can't workout on days I work. I work two days in a row and then I'm off for two days. I know that it's advised to not workout two days consecutively but I was wondering if I could workout two days in a row if I rest the following two days in a row. Basically I would workout on days off and rest days I work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your work Greg! Your material is very motivating :) I’m working through the 10 workouts beginner‘s sheet and it’s not clear from it whether there should be breaks between the repetition cycles of subsequent exercises. E.g. should there be a small break in workout 5 between doing Goblet squat x10 / Halo x5 and the next repetition cycle?

Yes Susan, providing the aches are just muscle soreness then you can continue, just ease into the workouts gradually and take care.

Hi Greg,

I’m really enjoying your 5 Beginners exercises with an 8kg and just tried adding the swing to it. Trying to get my form perfect I kind of kept going & did 5 sets of 10, and a couple of days later I’m slightly achy around my abdomen & back, is it okay to work out with the ache? It’s not pain, per se. These workouts are much more fun than regular weights, and the videos are so great at showing how to properly do them. Best thing I’ve found for a backyard workout in lockdown!
